Established in 1991, the Alberta Emerald Foundation (AEF) is a registered charity, committed to recognizing, celebrating and inspiring environmental excellence in Alberta.
Our flagship program is the Emerald Awards, which celebrate environmental achievements at all levels. With ten established categories, the Emeralds recognize youth, schools, business, governments and community groups. Since 1992, the Emerald Awards have received over 2500 nominations, recognizing over500 finalists and 250 recipients. Nominations close at the end of February and the Awards are presented in June each year. Uniquely Albertan, there is no other program quite like the Emeralds in Canada, recognizing environmental achievements at all levels.
The AEF has other programs that support our mission. The Youth Environmental Engagement Grant Program provides grants of up to $400 to schools, classrooms and clubs across Alberta. The Sharing Stories Communications Strategy works to get more of our "good news" environmental stories out for public consumption and learning. And the Emerald Day community engagement program provides an opportunity for communities to showcase their local environmental heroes.
All of these programs are entirely donor and sponsor funded. The AEF receives no regular funding from any sources.
You can direct your support to a specific Emerald program or make a general donation, which will be allocated to an area most in need of support. Donations are eligible for a charitable tax receipt, and are very much appreciated.
By making a contribution to the Alberta Emerald Foundation, you are demonstrating your commitment to a greener future for our province.
